Had a party for my 7 year old daughter here today . From start to finish the staff was a joy to work with . All 15 kids had a blast . It was nice to have a kids party where every parent was engaged and taking pictures and videos ! Party room is up steep winding stairs but the room is fantastic and had everything we needed. I have no clue why anyone would complain . It’s a Rock climbing gym ! Every single parent commented on how much fun they had . 100% recommend!
Just had an amazing experience at this business and did not even get to climb. I checked the Canada day hours, it said open. My brother and I are looking into returning to climbing again. I was told " scope " out this place as it has been years since I have climbed here, he also used the word "bet" a lot not sure but there is an 11 year gap in our age so that may explain it. How ever long story short I did not call to confirm these hours ! My fault totally. However after parking and walking up it seemed open only not really. So I did what anyone would do and tried the door. It opened!! However judging from crouching Terry I believe his name is, the place was under renovation. Did I get to climb no, why sucha great review I was offered a discount for my time and my mistake, Terry was extremely friendly and went above and beyond for customer satisfaction and I was not even a customer yet. They had clearly been working hard and super busy which shows they are putting the time and care into the place to keep it nice and rock worthy! Still after working hard on Canada day when most of the country is relaxing they took time to talk me, give offers to me and answer all my questions. Honestly seems like a pretty legit place or " bet " place. I'd have to check with my brother on that one. I look forward to returning to Of Rock and Chalk very soon. Customer service top notch! Thanks again guys.
Great facility and convenient for downtown Newmarket. Staff was very attentive and friendly and the price is unbeatable. Getting through waivers was fast and easy. Routes are great and my kids love spending hours and hours here, especially through the summer and on PA days. Highly recommended!
Took my kids here recently and it's always a fun time. A lot of challenging routes from 5.7-5.12. There are many auto belays, a rope climb and a small kids bouldering and adult 10x10 bouldering section. For the 5 of us, including gear for the day pass was about $180. Highly recommend for beginner climbers to advanced. They can take kids 4yo and up too!
Our camp group came here today and had a great time climbing. We were, however, disappointed in the staff. It was a very unwelcoming environment where the staff constantly barked at the campers & were extremely unfriendly. We expected much friendlier staff as when we booked, the person we spoke to was very accommodating. They promised to do team building activities with the campers but didn't come through with that either. Not a place we will visit again.
Very disappointed. I run a summer camp and my advice is don't come here if you have a large group of kids. I was excited to all the kids climb, but instead the staff yelled at my Intern the minute she came in because one of my campers was sick and not coming (as if we could help that). The staff did not explain to my campers how to descend from the wall properly nor could they handle a large group of kids. The staff was caught several times looking at their phones instead of paying attention to the kids and they broke their own safety rules. They weren't on the same page when it came to where my campers could chill and eat a snack and kept yelling/sending them back and forth. I understand a large group of kids can be overwhelming, but not once did any of the staff approach us ask tell us what they needed and instead of asking for our help they yelled at my kids, and volunteers. They sent some kids to a room without giving us a number and then got upset when there were too many. We ended up leaving early because the lack of professionalism got ridiculous. I will never come back to this place even with a handful of people.
Quick view:sketchyWe came in just after opening and the place was already dirty. Hairballs on the gym floor, garbage in the change rooms, the ropes are frayed and walls splintering.Staff didn't check the waiver of the other person in my group and failed to instruct us how to use the belay devices until asked which is outrageous. Much rather drive further south to Toronto for a proper gym
My kids went a week in the summer camp program and every day I would pick them up they were really excited, they would be super hyper! If you have picky kids, I am recommending this camp. The staff is super nice! Good job Of Rock & Chalk ! And thank you!
Amazing staff, community atmosphere, and an overall great place to meet new people and climb!
As soon as you find this location youre tempted to turn back. Its at the end of a roadway with only a few houses around it and it looks very sketchy. Even after you walk in, you must travel through quite a few hallways in order to get to the reception area. This wouldnt be so bad if you saw a single person to confirm that this indeed was the right place. However, once you do meet the staff youll find that they are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Theyll first ask you to sign a waiver, which is standard in almost all bouldering facilities. They will then give you your climbing shoes and go through all the safety instructions. It was quite a fun experience and I would definitely do it again. The facility is quite large in terms of height, but they do have more difficult and smaller rooms. I went bouldering here with the purchase of a Groupon for two, at a very good price, which included the shoe rental and a chalk bag. I do recommend using this or other deals if they are still available, as you will most likely get tired after an hour and a half (if youre a beginner) and it would be a waste to get a day pass.
