What was meant to be a fun and simple visit to the library turned into an uncomfortable experience that has unfortunately discouraged us from returning. My wife, our two-year-old, and I visited the library on Sunday, September 28. We began on the lower level to find a few specific books related to courses my wife and I are currently taking. Shortly after arriving downstairs, our daughter became upset and started to cry. We had only been in the aisle for a minute or so and were doing our best to quickly find our books while calming her. A librarian approached us at that moment. I greeted her with a "hi," and she asked if everything was okay. We said yes, and just as I was about to explain the situation, she stated that the section was a quiet area. My wife acknowledged this, but before we had the chance to fully respond, the librarian added that it would probably be best if we went upstairs. At that point, my wife and I decided to put the books back and leave the lower level. The interaction felt abrupt and left us feeling unwelcome. We absolutely understand the need for quiet in certain areas of the library, but we felt the situation could have been handled with more understanding and a gentler approach. We weren’t aimlessly browsing. We knew what we needed and were just trying to manage a brief moment with our child. Before leaving, we stopped by the front desk to clarify whether children were allowed on the lower level. The staff member there seemed surprised by the question and confirmed that children are welcome. After we explained what had happened, she acknowledged that the downstairs is typically quieter but said it was "okay this one time," which left us further confused and uncomfortable. As parents, it’s not always possible for us to visit without our child, and our visit downstairs was intended to be very brief, before heading upstairs to the children's section. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling unwelcome in a space we previously enjoyed as a family. We hope this feedback is taken constructively, as we truly value what a library offers to a community.
Quiet zone isn’t quiet. It’s actually the employees who speak loudly and when asked just stare at you. Very disappointing. Not nice. I’m just trying to study
I had a disappointing experience at this library. The washrooms and main hall area was full of homeless with heavy smell of weed. It didn’t feel clean or properly maintained. The environment isn’t comfortable for studying or spending time. Most importantly, I don’t think it’s a safe or appropriate place for children. I really hope the management takes action to improve things.
We've moved to Newmarket recently. Today I went to the library for the first time to get my membership card. I'm impressed by the friendliness of the staffs. So nice people!
Librarians at the Newmarket Public Library are the worst I've ever seen. Their front desk is at the enterance, and every time we walk in they are loudly laughing, chatting and discussing personal issues that have nothing to do with work. When you ask for information, they are rude and condescending. On one visit, a younger man waiting in line before us at the customer service desk asked to print out a document from one of library computers he was using. The librarian told him it cost 20 cents. The man was very embarrassed, he didn't have any money. He asked if she would let him print just one page? "Oh no," the librarian replied "I need to get my manager..." And she got up to leave. The man was so embarrassed he got angry. "No forget it, just forget it, don't help anyone out". I stopped the librarian in her tracks and gave her a quarter to pay for the man's copy. It was unbelievable. These people may have degrees in library sciences but their common sense and professionalism is non existent.
Very beatiful organized library I came all way from bradford to here becuase bradford doesnt have good quite independent study place in their library And this library has it all !! Very lovely and beatiful view

I have been going to the library since I was young. Great place that has grown into a good facility for the community. Great selection of books services and magazines for locals. They always update the place with new features and hold various workshops each month.
I have been a member more than five years and always I left pleasure. Very helpful staff and very well organized environment.
