As someone in the film industry, I’ve spent over $30,000 at EQ Audio, relying on their expertise to outfit my home cinema for professional screenings and editing projects. Ed was initially great—he helped design a system around my space and budget, working with my acoustic engineer, and recommended the Arcam AV41 for my 9.6.1 setup. Unfortunately, the AV41 experience became a multi-year ordeal. The first unit arrived damaged. Ed sent me an Acurus Muse loaner (which worked flawlessly -- and surprisingly he was shocked I called to ask for an 'inferior unit' [The Arcam] ), but after nearly 6 months of waiting, I received a second AV41, which failed after two months. Ed referred me to the distributor (Erikson/JAM), who replaced the unit—again and again. I went through five separate AV41s, all of which failed within weeks. I ruled out electrical issues with a licensed electrician present during a distributor call, and Erikson ultimately confirmed the fifth unit was defective. They issued Ed a full credit. I then requested a refund, as Ed had promised on a prior call if the issue wasn’t with my setup. Instead, I was told my order was “custom” and not refundable. Ed eventually offered a refund minus a 20% restocking fee—despite having no unit to restock, as it was returned and credited to him. I pushed back, citing both his verbal promise and the history, but he stopped responding and later threatened legal action if I continued contact -- citing I was harassing him. To be fair, I was calling regularly with hopes of Ed actually answering the phone because I was objectively worried that Ed wasn't going to refund me for the nearly-ten-grand unit. My instinct was mostly correct. I’ve since spoken with other AV dealers in the GTA who confirmed the AV41 had known reliability issues, and all said they would have issued a full refund under similar circumstances. I am now out nearly $2000.00 and had to turn to another company to get my cinema operable. On the plus side, Josh at BayBloor Radio helped me purchase a new unit while providing me with a loaner until it arrived. he also sent a team to install, repack and install the new one. This is my personal experience. I share it in the hope others have a smoother one. The initial service was strong—but the follow-through and accountability, for me, were deeply disappointing.

After an issue has been discovered with the newly purchased item, EQ Audio Video team have promptly responded and took action, offered several remedy options and ultimately provided very favourite solution. Matt and Ed came to my house to pickup the failed item (very heavy and very big to repackage and transport) while delivering the agreed upon replacement and setting everything up to my full satisfaction. We used Ed and his team for a small speaker installation (speakers we already had). We knew nothing about our current setup and upon meeting Ed and his team, we learned so much. He is extremely knowledgable on home theatre setup and knew exactly which direction we should take to set up what we had. He also gave us some excellent recommendations on some wall speakers to add to our system. We did and are so so happy with them! They are fantastic and look amazing on our wall! The gentlemen who set up our system worked extremely hard and did not stop until everything sounded and looked impeccable.
