What an incredible shop. Omar the owner is so welcoming, showed us the whole shop and took his time with us. Helped us find the comics we needed. Such an awesome concept, comics and cappuccinos (along with all kinds of other drinks) is amazing. Thank you Omar, we will certainly be back!
Great experience, the person working was able to help me find what I was looking for, order something for me that was out of stock and give me some great recommendations. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic comic shop that adds interest and culture to the already fantastic vibe of downtown Newmarket. The owner is very knowledgeable about comics and is a very personable and approachable person with top tier suggestions of what to read. Also, the cocktail bar in the back end of the shop is serving up very high quality cocktails at a fair price and most/all the ingredients are made in house! Lastly, many of the collectibles are things that are out of production or have a fair rarity among collectors. Despite this, most of the collectibles are close to or at MSRP if not a bit cheaper. Fantastic spot. If you're any kind of nerdy for pop culture and you're in the area please support this shop. It's fantastic and I wish it was in the city I live in!
My fiancé and I visited during the Ice Fest lounge last year, and despite being the only guests inside at the time, we were not greeted or acknowledged in any way. When my fiancé asked if an Old Fashioned could be made (edit: maybe it wasn’t an old fashion, but it was something similar that wasn’t on the menu, regardless, the response was rude and I can guarantee I am not mixing this place up or the individual up with someone or something else. It was a the gentleman from their Instagram that goes by the name of Omar), the owner, Omar, responded curtly, directing us to their cocktail list and stating that only the drinks listed would be made. While I can appreciate a thoughtfully curated menu and have great respect for talented bartenders, the interaction lacked any sense of hospitality. A simple, polite explanation would have gone a long way, but instead, the tone felt dismissive and unnecessarily harsh. At no point were we told that the ingredients weren’t available — just that only their list was an option. It’s unfortunate because Main Street is home to many wonderful establishments that pride themselves on great service. I often recommend Hungry Brew Hops, where the team — especially Luke — always makes people feel welcome. I’ve only been here once and it was last year but the experience left a lasting impression, which prompted me to write this and even the tone of responses to other reviews here reflects the same attitude we encountered in person.
Went in on a whim in downtown Newmarket on a Saturday Evening. My friends and I were pleasantly surprised at the welcoming environment of this comic shop! The owner has a bar in the back end of the shop. He makes his own bitters and syrups while also using high end spirits for the cocktails. The drinks were superb and fairly priced for how much alcohol they contain. The comics and merchandise were well curated and not all just run of the mill choices. There's alot of though put into what the shop is carrying and MANY of the limited run figured and toys were priced AT MSRP! I couldn't find markup on alot of the collectibles and to me that's a huge reason for a 5 star review. The owner is proud of his shop and he deserves to be. They're currently running a charity raffle and he supports local artists. I've been to alot of comic shops over my years and this is up there as one of the if not the best I've experienced. I wish I had it near my home. P.S. the 1 star review for the shop is absolutely unhinged. We were in there during busy hour with a bunch of regulars and they were nothing but kind.
I’d like to iterate that my rating is not because of a horrible experience, but it was also not my best experience at an LCS either. This review is just my honest feelings of my experience and to hopefully provide some insight and feedback as a customer. Expanding my search for more LCS I heard about here and was excited to give a look! The reviews seemed great and I was excited check it out. The shop is very nice and cozy, the vibes are great, but I just found the environment to be a little uneasy for a new customer. After a couple seconds it felt very much like my presence as a customer was not met with the same enthusiasm as I had being a customer there. I felt a constant watchful and judging eye while I was there and ultimately decided to leave and not purchase anything as it just didn’t feel like I was very welcome and being constantly watched. I’m fully understanding of protecting merchandise, but it felt like a huge disrespect and uncomfortable as the watching came with no assistance or help that would’ve made it pass off more lightly. Honestly a “hi how are you?” Or a “can I help you find anything particular” would’ve truly made the difference. I just honestly didn’t feel that fun cozy vibe when I entered last through my experience here, and for a shy person like myself, it’s just not for me. For a lack of better words, it just felt… icky. I truly wish I didn’t feel that way because I honestly loved the place at first. But overall the experience really hurt it for me, I didn’t feel like I was in the most welcoming space to enjoy and nerd out over some comics. With all that said though, I will say a delight I found was a more than average amount of variant covers! So if you love those like myself, this might be the spot for you! Some comics on the rack were slightly humidity damaged but overall I think that’s more of a personal peeve that didn’t affect my rating much. I’m more used to shops that pre-sleeve and board but I’m aware it’s more of an each to their own thing per store and otherwise would’ve still bought them. I personally think I will stick to my usual stores after my experience, but I hope and wish to eventually try to shop here again as like I said, the place seems really cool. I just wish that the unwarm welcome wasn’t my first experience there. I hope when and if I do shop here again, I can change/make a better review in the future. :)
Once this place closes, you HAVE to head to the wayside tavern next door. BEST grilled cheese I’ve ever had in my entire life!!! (I recommend it with bacon) And the Gin Sours are absolutely lovely
